Pakefield notes:The Village takes it's name from Pacca's or Pagga's field after a local land owner of the time, the village features a distinctive church, All Saints and St. Margaret. Long ago the church was split because it used to serve two separate parishes, but now after an eventful history, which includes being bombed in the 2nd World War, the churches share a tower and are one. In 1801 the population of pakefield was 282. The Church features a thatched roof.

All Saints and St Margaret's Church, Pakefield is another important site for us. William Colby and Maria Panks were married here. William Albrow and Margaret Colby were married and their son William was Christened here, as were at least two of the preceding Williams.

Historical perspective:The Riot Act (1 Geo. 1, c. 5) of 1714 was an act introduced by the Parliament of Great Britain authorising local authorities to declare any group of more than twelve people to be unlawfully assembled, and thus have to disperse or face punitive action. The Act, whose long title was "An act for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies, and for the more speedy and effectual punishing the rioters", came into force on August 1, 1715, and remained on the statute books until 1973.
