From our point
of view the Isbell line starts with
Louisa who married Christopher Albrow.
The overlap from the Albrow line is repeated here to provide continuity.
After much searching of records from St.Mary's Elsing, I have been
able to redefine the Isbell line. Special thanks to Rose
Isbell - my third cousin, for allowing access to her
tree, so that we can add to ours.

Louisa |
It
looks like Louisa's Father, Charles
has remarried by the time of the 1891 Census and Louisa
age 11, is located at The Industrial School, Bois Fields, Halstead,
Essex. The school is located within the site of The
Halstead Workhouse which was demolished in 1925. The School
building survives (2007). see picture and notes
below
Louisa
seems to have had plenty of tragedy in her early years with her
Mother, Emma dying at age 28 when Louisa
was five and her older sister, Emma dying
at age 13.... Louisa is back at home when
the 1901 Census was taken.
The 1911 Census
shows the Albrows are living at 23 Little Randolph Street NW
1. Right opposite Louisa's father,
Charles at no.24.
Louisa and Christopher appear
to be living at the same address as Louisa's
father, when Christopher cites his address
at the time of his army attestation in 1915.

The move to
Rochford, Essex (Southend-on Sea) takes place after Christopher's

Emma and Charles were both born before Christopher and Louisa'
were married, during his time in South Africa: 4 November 1899
- 12 July 1902. Although Christopher assumes parental responsibilty
for them he is, apparently, not in possesion of their birth certificates
and he notes on army documents that their sunames are both 'Isbell'

With
the death of Emma in 1885, the 1891
Census shows Charles has re-married.
His wife is: Louisa
( Birth:
<1861> at Ipswich, Suffolk). |
|
They
are at 2 Grafton Tce, St. Pancras and
Charles is a self-employed 'General Dealer'.
This snapshot seems to demonstrate times must have been bleak
as they occupy a single room and our Louisa
is living at "The Industrial School" (see above)

By 1911, when
the census is taken, Charles is a widower
once again and he is living opposite his daughter and son-in-law
(Louisa and Christopher)
at 24 Little Randolph St. Kentish Town (now re-named Rousden
St) On the night of the census his grandson Charles is staying with
him. The 1911 Census was completed by Charles

To date, the
earliest reference that I have located for Emma,
is the 1871 Census (link above) which finds her at age 14 as a servant
in the Kelly household at 8 Islip St, St. Pancras
The Census
of 1881, we see that Charles is employed
as a 'Bricklayers Labourer' and Emma as
an 'Ironer'. Our Louisa is one year old.
They are located at: 98 Weedington Rd and Charles' young
brother, George and sister-in-law Sarah nee Ham(m), with their son
William, are lodging with them.
Emma's
line is difficult to trace beyond here. Her short and apparently
hard life has left little information.

Elsing
Parish -
lies in the valley of the River Wensum approximately mid-way between
Norwich and Fakenham.Named after a Danish chieftain “Elesa”
whose image appears on the village sign together with his hunting
hound, the manor of Elsing was held by the Hastings family who in
1470 built the lovely moated Hall. The Hall was used during the
16th century to hide catholic priests to escape persecution and
has the usual priest holes amongst its many features. The village
church of St Mary was built in 1347 it has the widest pillar less
nave of any church in East Anglia and its Font was featured in the
Great Exhibition of 1851.
