John Kirk served in the First World War in the R.F.A.(Royal Field Artillery) Regulars "C" Battery: (Army No. 95789). He was originally stationed at Bettisfield Camp. He served in the First World War in The Balkans as the page of his pay book shows (below). He served in the rank of sergeant

Brigades of the Royal Field Artillery were armed with the smallest caliber and most mobile of artillery pieces. “C” Battery would have been equipped with four 18 pounder guns and would have been situated only a little way behind the front line. There would have been about 200 men in the Battery.

John served in The Balkans in The First World War and the record (left) shows that he was awarded:
The 1914-15 Star (The Mons Star)
The British War Medal 1914-20
and the Victory Medal 1914-18 (The Allied Victory Medal)

I have shown them above but these are not John's actual medals. Christopher Albrow was awarded the same medals for his service in the First World War and a full description of the medals can be seen on one of his pages: Click on this link to see the descriptions
